Today, Apple surprised iPhone users by releasing the iOS 18.4 update earlier than expected. Initially, the tech giant said that it would release the update in early April. Anyway, it’s here and brings a few new Apple Intelligence features for the iPhone 15 Pro models and the iPhone 16 family.
Apple releases iOS 18.4 with Priority Notifications and other handy features
One of the biggest features announced with iOS 18.4 is Priority Notifications. It uses Apple Intelligence to sort through the messages and notify you of the most important ones. Next up, there’s a new style in the Image Playground called Sketch. After the iOS 18.4 update, Apple Intelligence will be available in eight additional languages, including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, Spanish, as well as localized English for India and Singapore.
The fourth major update to iOS 18 also adds a bunch of new emojis, including a Smiley with bags under their eyes. If you own an Apple Vision Pro, your updated iPhone will automatically download a new companion app. There are a few notable changes made to the Photos app.
As part of the iOS 18.4 update, you’ll have new ways to order items and new filters to help you hide or show items in the Library view. Not to forget, you’ll also see a sorting option in the Photos app. If you have a photo in the Hidden section, it won’t be available for importing to the Mac or PC with the Face ID setting enabled.
The News+ subscribers will now see the Food section, where they can get stories about restaurants, kitchen tips, and a Recipe Catalog with the option to Save Recipes. The iOS 18.4 update also improves recent search suggestions in Safari. Now you can easily get back to previous search topics as you start searching the new ones. This iOS update also streamlines parents’ setup for a Child account. In other words, if parents want to complete the setup later, a child-friendly default setting will take over.
Now, your kids can’t reset Screen Time limits
The Screen Time limits can’t be reset even after uninstalling and reinstalling an app following the iOS 18.4 update. This one is a handy change for all the parents out there. This one is interesting too—you can pause app download and resume it later without losing the progress. If you were among the ones who wanted the Ambient Music on the Control Center, Apple has fulfilled your wish. That’s not all; controlling a Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaner is now possible in the Home app.
You will also find a new widget for Podcasts, including one called Followed Shows that helps track your favorite shows. Last but not least, you can now add Apple Fitness+ collections to the Library, which also has a new widget. If you have an eligible iPhone, you can now update it by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Not to forget, Apple has also released iPadOS 18.4, macOS Sequoia 15.4 today.
